Impact Stories

"Being in IT GIRLS has changed me for the better. Being a part of this lovely sister program has shown me how important it is to have female bonds in your life.

Ms. Jones has made a great impact on my life and has helped change me for the better. She pushes me to keep going and never give up no matter what obstacles I face.

I’ve learned to become friendly and open up my eyes for bigger and better opportunities that are out there for me. If I could do it all over again I definitely would! It was amazing."

Being apart of IT GIRLS has taught me so many things. I learned so much about myself and others. We spent a lot of time talking about respect, responsibility, self-care, self- love and how to deal with others.

With the things I’ve learned from It IT GIRLS, I now know how love myself on different aspects and how to encourage other females about self-care and love. It can be difficult sometimes trying to love others, if you were never taught how to love yourself first.

Self-love will change the way you react to situations. I appreciate all the leading ladies apart of IT GIRLS. My assigned mentor was just what I needed at a new school. This relationship blossomed during my time. She showed tough love and consistency. She held me accountable because she saw many things in me I didn’t notice. She even took me on my first HBCU college tour.

This later became the place I spent my freshman year. I also had another mentor that felt like a sister and she taught me alit and took me in as family. Even though Ms.Jones was not my assigned mentor,  I love our bond and she has loved me unconditionally from the start. I’m so grateful for her and she has witnessed me grow through some challenging experiences.

Even when I try to push her away she still remains by my side. Life has taught me that you’re going to have people in your life to be a lesson or a blessing. And I believe it’s a blessing to have these leading ladies around to help you navigate life.

Parent Testimony

Being a single parent and not financially fit, I was not able to pay the balance of my daughter's undergraduate college balance when she graduated in December of 2018 from University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

I spoke to Ms. Jones at  IT GIRLS and she told me not to stress, IT GIRLS will help with the balance so my daughter could receive her degree and frame it.

IT GIRLS was such a blessing to us and we are very appreciative for the help we received.

Thank you Ms. Jones and everyone at IT GIRLS that helped us.

Professional Testimony

I came to know about IT GIRLS mentoring program as a School Counselor at a High School Baltimore in 2015.  At that time the school was experiencing an unusual amount of issues with our female students.   Ms. Jones, was asked by Administration to help resolve the problems.  Ms. Jones implemented the IT GIRLS mentoring program for the young ladies who attended the school.  It was soon realized that this was not just a group for girls. The IT GIRLS mentoring program became the “thing to be”. It is a place for young ladies to express themselves and share their fears, dreams, goals, and ambitions.  The IT GIRLS program became a cultural phenomenon at the school and in community.  The young ladies in the program had to adhere to the rules, norms, and expectations of  IT GIRLS, its members promoted citizenship, mentoring, and held each other to a high standard of self-respect for themselves and others.

Those expectations and standards were developed by Ms. Jones, a leader that understands the millennial generation, she has the ability to cultivate buy-in for the IT GIRLS program from staff, administration, parents and the community.  The IT GIRLS program under her leadership has transformed the culture of a school building.  Ms. Keisha Jones and the IT GIRLS program have improved, changed, and motivated hundreds of young ladies to challenge themselves and their peers to be better.

As a father of three daughters, I understand the power of a  positive peer group and the necessity of a safe place for young ladies to express themselves without fear of or being judge.  I look forward to the day my two girls can become a part of the IT GIRLS community.

I recommend IT GIRLS of Maryland Inc. for any school system that wants to build a positive, meaningful program for the young ladies they serve.

Sincerely
